Weekend Inspiration...

I fell in love with this fabric {pictured in centre} which is a vintage textile and I have just this morning, purchased a remnant. I'm not sure where it will live in my house or in what form, I just knew that I had to have it!!!   Any ideas?

The 'S' word...

Did you guess it? Yes... Sustainability!!! This has been defined as "development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs" by the World Commission on the Environment & Development.

I am now back at college for the year and am doing an environmental sustainability subject, so this is very relevant!! We have discussed many concepts including the lifecycle analysis of various materials/products as well as how to identify & specify various sustainable materials when designing. One of the phrases that is heard over and over again is 'reduce, re-use & recycle'. I have always been a huge fan of re-using products and giving old items a new lease of life - whether it be a piece of furniture, decorative item or fabric. This is an extremely easy way to minimise waste and negate the need to purchase new products.

I love seeing how other people explore this concept and how amazingly creative so many people are. Last week I had a lovely comment from Brigitta at Duo {who has some amazing sustainable finds in interiors, fashion & more}, and that is where I came across the designer whose work is pictured above. The plates are a concept called "Rehabilitated Dishware" by Sarah Cihat. She describes her work as "an exercise in sustainability that reincarnates existing products" - you have to admit, these are truly special dinner plates - and are recycled nonetheless!!!

Long time, no see...

I can't believe it's been a whole week since my last post - the time has simply flown by as I have been even busier than usual. The rest of this week is rather crazy as well including the weekend when I have a wedding to attend. I'll leave you with one of my favourite pictures ever from here.
